This CE webinar will introduce and familiarize the dental clinician in the philosophy of biologic dentistry in the design, application, and use of new composite and ceramic technologies. These offer maximum aesthetics and function to that patient while also providing high biocompatibility in chemistry, and minimizing the exposure potential of harmful volatile compounds (e.g., BPAs) that still exist in many alternative composite restorative materials.
Cosmetic Dentistry is one of the most rewarding disciplines to both the dentist and patient. To improve a patient’s smile can provide profound psychological and emotional benefits, in addition to social status. However, with the introduction of thousands materials in cosmetic dentistry, most notably, composite resins and bonding agents, many dentists are unaware of the health risks of many Bis-GMA resins, and failures of inadequate materials and techniques. Bisphenol A (BPA), which include many derivatives found in composite resins, are a potent endocrine disruptor with potential neurotoxicity according to a survey of many composite materials studied and published by the NIH. Degradation of dental composite resins increases the release of these compounds and their toxicity. This CE webinar will introduce some of the newer composite technologies (Admira/VOCO) and 3-D printing ceramic alternatives (Gradio-blocks/VOCO) that provide superior aesthetics, excellent function and reduce and eliminate the potential exposure to biological hazards.
