The majority of restorations being placed today are tooth-colored. However dentists are having challenges successfully placing composites in all situations. Post-operative sensitivity has been reduced, but not eliminated. Moisture control can be a compromise. Marginal leakage, staining and recurrent decay is still a challenge. Dentists need an alternative restorative material to complete their restorative armamentarium. The glass ionomer family is the perfect addition to complete the esthetic lineup. Not only are they easier to use, less technique sensitive and able to be placed in bulk, they are bioactive. Fluoride is released under acidic conditions and then reabsorbed when present in the oral environment. This makes them the perfect material for our aging patients who have compromised salivary function due to medications as well as young people who ingest vast amounts of sugar. Confusion exists about the uses and indications for these materials.

During this CE webinar, the student will learn the latest about glass ionomers as an innovative smart restorative option.   ( disclaimer, bio and commercial disclosure )
