The oral systemic link has gained notoriety in the past few years. We have been studying this link for hundreds of years. This CE webinar explores the history of the oral systemic link and periodontal disease then and now. We will discuss the history of oral bacteria and findings over centuries in its implication in systemic illness. Oral bacteria have been implicated in direct correlation with a host of systemic diseases including heart disease and diabetes. By taking an interdisciplinary healthcare approach and elevating all the members of the dental team as key partners in care we can be key stakeholders in restoring our patients to optimum health. This CE webinar includes a review of current literature concerning the oral systemic link and how to communicate these findings with patients to facilitate total overall health. We can educate our patients, not only, in the realm of restoration or repair but in the reversal of periodontal disease through regenerative therapy and that is a key factor in facilitating total body health. |
